More Than “Just an Office Romance”

Fact: Over 30% of office romances result in marriage. We are living proof of this statistic.

That’s right, for those of you who didn’t know, Steve and I met and fell in love, at work. It’s a fun story to tell.

Today is bittersweet, because it is Steve’s last day of work with this employer. Which means, when I go back to work after my parental leave, it will be without my hubby. To most of you, this is all you know, to me, all I know is having my hubby there with me.

I brought Maxton into our work today, so he could visit Steve. It was a bit emotional for me, but he is moving on to bigger and better things.

A new chapter is beginning, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for our little family.

The Vegas Stroller

Steve and I have been on a hunt for a decent (but not overly expensive) umbrella stroller to bring to Vegas with us (only three more weeks!). We decided bringing our $550 stroller on the plane with us was not a good idea – they don’t exactly handle items delicately.

After a lot of window shopping, and research, we purchased this:

The Safety 1st Lux Zune Stroller

We purchased it on sale at Babies R Us for $89.97, regular $129.99. I thought it was a great deal, and was impressed with it, once assembled. You can’t have high expectations for an umbrella stroller. You have to accept the limited storage and coverage, in exchange for its compactibility and light weight.

I decided to take it for a stroll (pardon the pun) around the block and was very disappointed. The left front wheels barely touched the ground when moving. When I got home, I swapped the front wheels and the same thing happened. I figured the left side of the frame must have been bent and would exchange it for another one.

For those of you that shop at Babies R Us, you know you pretty much have to give up your first-born before they will take something back without a hassle. I had my bill and it was less than 15 days, and they still gave me a hard time. The sales associate took it out of the box and tested it herself, and finally agreed it was defective (duh). So they brought out another one, and I wanted to try it before leaving the store. So I assembled it on my own, and the same thing happened! I knew it was just a crappy stroller and got a full refund. The stroller I originally purchased was put on the floor with a clearance tag for $49.99. I saved one Mom from purchasing it. Ha-ha.

The next one that caught my eye was this one:

The Graco Ipo Stroller with Weather Shield

You can find this stroller at Sears for $139.97. I loved the weather shield on this stroller, and knew it would be perfect for the hot Nevada sun. The kicker? The price. I did not want to have to spend that much, and neither did Steve. So the search continued…

I finally settled on this:

The Combi Cosmo EX Stroller

I purchased this stroller from the Costco website. This stroller retails for $134.99 at Costco ($169.99 at Babies R Us), but I purchased it on sale for $119.99. It arrived today, and I must say, I am impressed. I read quite a few bad reviews for it so I was skeptical before it arrived. The frame is not the strongest, again, it’s only an umbrella stroller but it seems to steer really well (around our house at least). Maxton looked comfortable in it, and I liked the little snack tray that it came with, as most umbrella strollers don’t. I also liked the handle on it, if only it had a parent tray – I ended up purchasing a removable cup holder for it. The storage underneath is limited, but there is a decent storage pocket on the back of the visor – it could hold a wallet, keys and a phone. It weighs less than 14lbs and folds up easily, with a carrying strap – bonus!

The real test will be a walk around the neighbourhood, but so far the Cosmo Combi is the winner!

Makeshift Monday

Happy Monday, all! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Steve and I have quite a few things on our “to-do” list this Spring/Summer. Actually, we have two “to-do” lists; a dream list, and a realistic one.

We would love to do some landscaping in both our front and backyard, but the priority is a deck for the back. We still haven’t made up our minds, but have a general idea of its functionality: an eating area, a BBQ area, (and if there is room), a lounge area. We don’t have a very large backyard, so we don’t want 3/4 of it to be overpowered by deck. There will be time for a dream deck if we move to a bigger home (with a larger yard) in the future.

Here are some gorgeous dream decks and patios, courtesy of HGTV.

I promise to share our plans, when we finally decide!

Seven Months

I can’t believe I am writing this post. Seriously, where is the pause button? I am so loving mommyhood, and find something new to love about Maxton every day.

Without further ado, here is his seven month photo:

These monthly photo’s are getting harder to take – to keep Maxton sitting still, is a challenge.

Today we had another family portrait done, as our last “professional” one, was when he was three months old. We also got some solo shots of Maxton (keep an eye out for those in the coming weeks).

I thought I would share a few other photo’s we took over the last couple of days, some Daddy/Maxton and Mommy/Maxton, time.

He’s the best little boy, we are so blessed!

Here is a glimpse of what Maxton has been up to:

– He is sitting up fairly well, now. He still falls over so there is always someone, or a cushion near by.

– He has started swimming lessons, he is officially a “Starfish”, but is not a fan of being dunked, thus far.

– He is still participating in Mom & Baby Yoga.

– He loves his solids, he has eaten everything I have given him to date.

– He scratches everything, and I mean everything. That’s his way of figuring out what something is.

– He is sleeping 10+ hours, straight at night (YAY! I hope I didn’t jinx it!).

– He loves rolling around our bed.

– He is scooting backwards.

– He is very vocal. He will let you know if you are amusing him, or ticking him off. Either of them make us laugh.

– He is cutting his first tooth: his top left eye-tooth. Not your typical “first tooth”.

– He says ma ma ma, mum, ra ra, wah wah, na na, ler and gler, quite often. We love all the little sounds and squeaks that come out of his mouth.

I could go on, and on – can you tell I’m a proud Mama? We love you sweetheart!

First Trip to the Zoo

I have to say it again, can you believe this weather?! I actually got quite the sunburn on Wednesday – a sunburn, in March!

On Wednesday I took Maxton to the Zoo for the first time. It was a gorgeous day with some great company. Although he didn’t really understand where he was, I’m sure he appreciated everything there was to look at. His favourite stops were the giant aquarium, and the penguins from the underwater viewing area. They swam right up to the glass and he followed them as they swam along, showing off for all to see.

Here is a sneak peek into our day:

Check back later today, for Maxton’s seven month update!
