Maxton’s Monkey Party

No Makeshift Monday post today – instead, I thought I would share Maxton’s first birthday celebrations with you.

It felt like the prep work took forever, but I guess that’s always the way with a party. I am really happy I chose a monkey themed party, I really think it turned out well.

I was able to snap a few pictures before the party started, but it was challenging to get some great table shots once the party began.

Maxton started the day of his party off, by getting into character.

We had a different selection of sandwiches, veggies and dip, a mango salad, mini banana muffins, fruit skewers, and you will notice on the end there is a monkey bread that my mom made.

Of course the party wouldn’t be complete without a monkey cake.

You may recognize that monkey from his monthly photos. I couldn’t have asked for a cuter cake for my little monkey!

First taste of sugar!

I’m off to spend time with my sweet little one year old – enjoy your day!

The Difference One Year Makes

August 24, 2011. 2:25pm. 11 lbs. 21.75 inches.

It’s amazing how a date can meaning nothing one year, and everything the next. My labour started August 23, and 22 hours later, we were holding our big baby boy.

In the last year:

– You have made us parents

– You have taught us patience

– You have shown us what unconditional love is

– You have taught us that 8 hours of sleep is a must, but it is possible to survive on 2

– You have brought purpose to our lives

– You have made us smile and laugh every day

I cannot begin to express the love, joy and happiness Maxton has brought to our lives. The past year has gone by in a blink of an eye, and I find myself in tears whenever I look back at photos and videos. Although I tried to live one day at a time, before I knew it, another month had passed. I could never have imagined the love I would have for my child and the joy he would bring to my life.

Each month I took a photo of Maxton with his monkey and blogged about what he had been up to. Let’s look back on each of those photos:

One Month

Two Months

Three Months

Four Months (Christmas Eve)

Five Months

Six Months

Seven Months

Eight Months

Nine Months

Ten Months

Eleven Months

Last, but not least – Maxton’s 12 month photo:

12 Months (ONE YEAR!)

It’s funny to see the changes month to month – I’m so glad I did monthly pictures!

At 12 months, Maxton:

– Has seven teeth and is brewing a molar

– Is not walking yet, but can sure make his way around quickly while holding on to whatever is close by

-Babbles all day long and has starting to say “ba-ba” while holding a ball (he’s getting there)

– Will sign “milk” when he wants it

– Loves to clap and blow kisses

– Loves sitting on the porch with Mama and Dada and pointing out the cars and airplanes

This little boy is such a blessing in our lives and brings joy to our hearts every day.

Happy 1st Birthday, Maxton! We love you so so so much! xo

Evolving Space Continued

Last week I shared a space in our home that has changed with our growing needs. Here’s what I left you with:

The brown shag carpet had to go. It suit the space before, but wasn’t working anymore. As I mentioned I wanted to purchase some neutral foam play mats – the bright colours are great for a “playroom” but the space wasn’t large enough, and I wanted the room to flow. Costco seemed to be the only place that sold what I was looking for, and I am more than pleased with how the space looks now.

Maxton loves the space, and it’s functional. This will do, until we finish the basement, and create a proper playroom for him – one of these days…

Tomorrow is Maxton’s first birthday (sniff), so we will be spending the day with our boy. Be sure to check back tomorrow for his “one year” post. His party is on Saturday, so I will definitely share all the details with you on Monday.

We are also venturing out this weekend on a new car hunt, and I will share more on that early next week.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

While I was pregnant with Maxton, I told Steve we should probably think about investing in a better camera – the Nikon Coolpix wasn’t going to cut it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good camera, but we wanted something fantastic.

So there we were, a month from Maxton’s first birthday with only our Nikon Coolpix. I told Steve that it would have to be our Christmas gift to each other and that it was a must. Two weeks ago, Steve decided Christmas would come early this year, and surprised me with a Nikon D5100 DSLR camera – complete with memory card, case and extra battery.

I couldn’t believe it. I was so elated that we would have some great pictures of Maxton on his first birthday. Steve did his homework and ended up getting a great deal on the camera – bonus!

Although we are still learning how to “properly” use it, we have taken some great photos.

Makeshift Monday

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a good weekend, and that you are soaking up the last couple of weeks of August.

We have been busy with family visiting from the Yukon, and preparing for Maxton’s party.

I have a few posts lined up for the week because I am going to be busy prepping for Maxton’s 1st birthday party on Saturday. So here is a sneak peek of some upcoming posts this week!
