An Antibiotic Easter

Happy Easter everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend.

I can’t say ours was “wonderful”. I enjoyed spending the time with Maxton and Steve of course, but most of mine was spent in bed. We all headed to the walk-in clinic on Good Friday, after Maxton had been sick with a cough, and on/off fever for five days, and my throat was sore and I had started a cough. It turns out Maxton had the start of a double ear infection, so he was prescribed antibiotics, and puffers for the cough. We noticed in an improvement in him after one night of puffers. He wasn’t waking in coughing fits 6-8 times a night anymore. Poor guy. Thankfully today, he is much, much better and back to his old self!

I wish I could say the same for me…I was told I had a virus and all I could do was “rest”. Sure I was happy that they didn’t prescribe me any drugs, but a part of me wanted them to, just so I could hear “you should feel better in 24 hours or so”. No such luck.

So here I am on day 5 of whatever this virus is, and I am not better. No fever today, which is good, but I have a HORRIBLE cough (which has caused me to lose my voice), a throat that seems to be holding a 24 hour bonfire session, and a congested head/nose (that just started today, joy). So, I went back to my doctor today, he took a swab of my throat, but said it’s probably just viral.

Popsicles, honey-lemon tea, lozenges: that’s about all I can do at this point. My doctor wrote me off work for the week and told me to “rest”. My job involves me talking for eight hours straight, so I will definitely need a couple of days to get my voice back, and be able to talk longer than two minutes without breaking out in a coughing fit.

So that was the extent of our Easter weekend. We had to cancel Easter dinner with my Mom’s family and Steve’s family, but everyone understood. It happens.

The Easter bunny still managed to make it to our house and visit Maxton, despite how Mama was feeling. He may also make a reappearance later this week for an Easter egg hunt, that didn’t happen in our house this weekend. Thanks Easter bunny.
